Simon holds the post of University Secretary and works within the Vice Chancellor’s office at St Mary’s University. The post ensures a strategic and cohesive approach to the business of the University and advises as an advisor to the Vice Chancellor. Simon joined St Mary’s from the military and holds Postgraduate qualifications in International Relations and Programme and Project Management.

Dr Deborah
James

Deborah is the Higher Education Policy Analyst at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. She works in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, supporting the Vice-Chancellor in policy matters and other projects. The role includes policy research, analysis, briefings, speeches, other communications, and more generally, keeping up to date with the policy environment and regulatory demands. Deborah liaises with both external and internal stakeholders on policy matters.

Before this, Deborah taught for many years in international schools and acted as a deputy chief examiner for the IB. She then moved to teaching adults at college and university levels before working in quality for HE in FE across a group of colleges. She has also undertaken review work for the QAA. Deborah recently completed a Professional Doctorate at Winchester University based on quality management for HE in FE. The policy analysis over the years of study led to the search for a role in policy work.
