Sam
Jones
Sam joined the University of Surrey in April 2009 as Executive Officer to
the Vice-Chancellor.
Here she provides high level external relations support and advice to the Vice-Chancellor (Professor Sir
Christopher Snowden (2009-2015), Professor Michael Kearney (2015-2016), Professor G.Q. Max Lu (2016 to
date)) covering a broad range of communications and PR activities, including media relations, speech
writing, event planning, community advocacy, stakeholder management, and policy research.
After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Humanities from the University of Bedfordshire, Sam started her
career as a marketer for brand design consultancy Blackburn’s Ltd before a step-change took her to BBC
Television to administrate a two-year project with a vision to modernise the corporation’s production
capabilities.
She subsequently settled into public relations and worked for six years as a book publicist for
leading commercial fiction and non-fiction publisher Transworld Publishers, part of the Penguin Random
House Group, before joining Surrey in 2009.
